We need you to show your love to The Love Punks: www.myspace.com/lovepunkslove
In other words, add our Love Punks profile as your friend on Myspace!

We need to transfer some of our Myspace pals over to our alter-ego profile in preparation for some Road to Oprah press. :-)

If you haven't heard the story yet, the Evangenitals (traveling as The Love Punks) are going on a 45 day tour with the documentary crew of The 1 Second Film all over the US and Canada in a bio-diesel bus (with composting toilet and solar power!), ending up in Chicago, IL where we will ask Oprah to give us $1.

Big fun, baby. The ladies of Evangina will see you on the Road to Oprah!

Add the Love Punks, please!

Busy, busy I bees... - July 7, 2007

So much is going on, I don't have much time to share about it.

I started working full-time with The 1 Second Film, plotting our upcoming Road To Oprah cross-country bio-diesel 10,000+ mile adventure.

The Evangenitals will probably be traveling as "The Love Punks" considering that we're going to be heading straight through the Bible Belt and visiting Oprah Winfrey. We don't want the name of the band to be any sort of distraction from the amazing cause and vision that The 1 Second Film represents.

In other news, I started taking classes at IO West and have become utterly obsessed with long-form improv. Tonight Ptryxxx and I are going to go see "The Lampshades" which stars my improv teacher Scot Robinson (who was also in Anchorman) and Meredith from The Office, aka Kate Flannery.

I have to go to the xBiz summer forum at the HardRock in Vegas next week for my "other" job, and then my sister is getting married in Florida on the 22nd. I saw her wedding website, and it is just plain surreal. This will be the first time in a LONG time that all the Crockett's are going to be in the same place at the same time. Hopefully the wedding cruise doesn't sink and take us all to Davey Jones' locker.

I have to admit thoughts like that when they occur to me, or else I am afraid that they will actually happen, and then I'll be dying thinking, "are you fucking kidding me? I totally called that!"

What else?

After a strange period of seeming song-writer's block, a bunch of new material is starting to flow out of me. I'm writing a new love song about Ptryxxx that has was may be the cutest subtly vegan choral hook that was ever written.

Newlywed Jeff Jones is going to return to the Evangenitals for a mellow yellow coffee house set at Highland Perk on July 28th! I've decided that we're going to make this gig an open-house, sing-a-long, play-a-long, Evan-hootenanny! After so much rocking so far this year (and much more rocking to come with another Molly Malones gig and the Evangenitals playing Universal Citywalk's Block Party on September 1st) we thought it would be nice to have a calm, sit down with coffee evening where we can share favorite songs, simple chords, and tell some stories about how these songs were written and why.

Lastly, I just bought some red and purple vegan/animal friendly Manic Panic hair dye and I'm thinking I may do something crazy with it this weekend. :-)

Let's hear it for the GIRLS! - March 19, 2007

Evangina, also know as the Ladies of the Evangenitals, have received two honors this week over on GarageBand.com where the Evangina track "Time To Go" has been hanging tough in Round 2 of the showcase showdown.

For the week of March 19th, Time To Go was voted "Best Lyrics" and "Best Melody" in the Acoustic genre! Woo hoo!

If you pay a visit to the Evangina page at GarageBand.com you can hear this track and support the ladies. You can also look forward to hearing Time To Go on the much-anticipated 2nd album of the Evangenitals coming out this summer, where it will be a sweet Evangina oasis in the midst of the surging seas of Evangenital Joy!

In other news... major props should go out to the ladies for dressing up and putting on the ritz at the Bordello show last Wednesday night.

For all of you who missed it.... thank heavens for YouTube!!!

Evangina helms the Evangenitals for a Brett-less Presentation! - February 20, 2007

That's right, folks. It's time for another crazy ho-down at the Old Towne Pub with The Purple Gang and The Evangenitals.

There is a rumor going around that we've kicked Brettsky out of the band, but you shouldn't listen to the rumors.. even if we are the ones starting them!

The truth is.... HOLLYWOOD is to blame!

Brettsky's earning his stripes in the wild world of cinema editing, and the Evangenitals are going to have to perservere for one night without their beloved Coach and Master Noodler, Brett P Lyda.
So, here's the plan. We put in a call to some Evangenital Extended Family(tm) and we've got special treats for frequent fliers this show.

Jason Chesney (whom you may remember played bass for us at the infamous Knitting Factory/Trainwreck show) is stepping up on guitar (which you will also hear him playing on the forthcoming 2nd ALBUM of the Evangenitals!) and Dave "Salad" Salardino of UkeFink is making a special appearance on the mandolin!

We're bringing some 1st album gems out of the closet for review (think Quee Queg, Eva!) and also some other tunes that we rarely play for one reason or another.

And if you've been suffering from the short-set blues... we're planning a minimum of 10 songs, starting at 10pm. 10 at 10 sounds good to me.

And then the Purple Gang is going to play, putting us in a delicious aural sandwich betwixt Marty West and the Lower Companions and the Purple Gang. Good company!

And you can see it all for just $7 - $5 w/ flyer. Be sure to tell them that you're there to see the Evangenitals... because we actually get the money at the door when we play the Old Towne Pub, and that money will help make album #2 come out a whole lot sooner!

p.s.
if you have any last minute requests, be sure to send 'em our way!

Famous Author Admits to Loving the Evangenitals in an Interview! - February 6, 2007

Alright... so I'm a geek. But dammit, I get friggin' giddy as hell when a famous author whose work I respect the hell out of drops my name, and the Evangenitals name, as a band that he loves to get crazy to.

Check it out:

"For pure craziness, there are lots of other bands, including one that I can't write to but I've become a big fan; they're called the Evangenitals. They're from Los Angeles. One of the front singers is a former boxer-slash-philosopher. She's a fantastic singer. Her name is Juli Crockett."
Thank you, Colum McCann!

So, the back story to our association is that Colum was actually one of my professors my first year at The European Graduate School in Switzerland where I go every summer to work on my PhD in Philosophy. We had many deep conversations and stayed up late singing Evangenitals' songs and Irish classics with the hoodlums at the best damn theory camp in the Alps.

I even wrote a song about him, that a bunch of us geeks got together and hootenannied often. I'm trying to find a video of it that someone once sent me so I can post it. I know there's an audio recording (bad quality) and I may throw it up online somewhere for the hell of it.

In the meantime, we may just have to revive the song and play it at the next Evangenitals show. It's a damn fine sing along, in the Irish tradition. February 11th - All Star Lanes - Bowling, Drinking, Evangenitals, Sing Alongs, Karoke. Be there.

You can read the full interview with Colum McCann here: http://www.powells.com/interviews/mccann.html
And buy his books while you're at it. They're friggin' amazing.

Evangenitals Fun(d)Raiser - December 12, 2006

This Friday December 15th We, the Evangenitals will be playing our last show of 2006 at the Old Towne Pub in Pasadena.

I would very much like you to be there, if you can. There are many reasons for this. I will list them, and you can pick whichever you like, put it in your pocket, and come see the show.

1. This is the last Evangenitals show of '06.
(see explanation above)

2. The last show was so friggin' dope, and this one is gonna be even better.
Need proof? Watch this video from the last show. If you were AT the last show (Kent, Leslie, Sharon, Alan, Joseph, Eliot etc) you may find
yourself IN the video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xdZjSq-ydA
3. This is a fundraiser for our next album.
In January we will be hitting the studio to lay down tracks for all your new, favorite songs that weren't on the first album. Like Fuck 'em All. So if you have wanted a recording of Fuck 'em All, come to the show, and we will be able to make you one in January. We need $600 to pull this off, and all proceed from the show go toward the
new album.

4. Because we love you.
We really do. Always have, always will. Seriously.

5. The "Super-Deluxe Medley of Cover Songs".
I'm not kidding. This medley will blow your mind, and you can only hear it live, this time, while we've got the Holiday Balls to go through with it.

6. We (10:15pm) are playing with the Natural Disasters (9:30pm) and the Purple Gang (11:15pm) which means we have the musical spectrum
covered, from punk rock to blues to hillbilly soul to psychedelic rock to 50's doo wop. We got it. Come n' get it.

7. There will be press coverage, celebrity photographers, and we need
your sexy faces to come make us look good. Video interviews. Paparazzi, baby. This is Hollywoodland. Put your face on and be seen.

If none of these reasons prove sufficient to encourage your presence at this epic show, (or if you happen to be in another state, which is
a decent excuse) please at a minimum send us your good, supportive thoughts and prayers.

And please be sure to check out ALL the new Evangenitals videos on YouTube, and don't forget to leave us some juicy comments!

Happy Holidays From Evangina! - December 6, 2006

Feel the Cheer!

Evangina is on MichaelMoore.com! - November 8, 2006

Hi Everybody.

Alright, I'm being dorky and giddy, I know... but heck, I'm excited.

Yesterday, Lisa Dee and Juli C of the Evangenitals/Evangina went to vote, and we took along a BROOM (signifying the CLEAN SWEEP, baby) as
suggested by Michael Moore, (i know, i know, he can be irritating, but damn does he write me some rousing newsletters!) and we sent him a PHOTO and now it's on his site, MichaelMoore.com with a bunch of other photos, of a bunch of other voters, who all turned out to the polls to vote for the D's and turn some tides in the nation... or
something like that.

It was fun. We got to feel like we did our part. And then I went home and did the laundry.

Thanks to Rev. P-TryXXX of the SouperKlawBrazzz for snapping our face-to-the-future patriotico pic!

Here's a direct link to the Evangina pic!

We love you, and thank you for letting us be big dorks.

See you at the Old Towne Pub gig on Nov. 17th! It's gonna be kinda
deep, like the Loch Ness. Alright.

Love,

Juli & Lisa

Evangina's "Time To Go" makes it to Round Two on GarageBand.com! - October 24, 2006

That's right folks, our simple little song has proven to be a runaway hit over on GarageBand.com!

Time To Go is the first Evangenitals/Evangina tune to make it past the first round over there, and has received a whopping 4.6 stars out of a possible 5. We are pleased as punch, and taking this as a sign that it may be time to book an Evangina gig sometime soon, now that Juli is back from Berlin.

Click here to pay us a visit over on GarageBand and see what all the fuss is about!

Join Evangina and TEAM EVANGENITALS - September 22, 2006

On October 15th the girls of Evangina will join the full band, The Evangenitals, and we will be showing up at AIDS Walk Los Angeles to walk the streets of West Hollywood and we need a TEAM!

I would like to cordially invite you to join TEAM EVANGENITALS and walk with us! We are forming a mini-army of Evangenitalized enthusiasts the take the good word to the streets on this glorious day. If you are going to be in the Los Angeles area October 15th and you'd like to become a member of TEAM EVANGENITALS and walk with us please visit our team page, here.
If you are not in the Los Angeles area, and you'd like to make a contribution to the cause, you may do so either on our team page, or on my personal page, here: http://aidswalklosangeles2006.kintera.org/juliocrockett Every tiny donation helps a great deal!

And I'll be straight with you.... our goal is to raise an unprecedented amount of funds for the AIDS Walk, rouse up a battalion of troops, and get a bunch of media attention for the Evangenitals, our sponsors, and the AIDS Project Los Angeles. That's the motive rundown, folks, as far as I know it. Why not? Let's shoot for the stars!

Now, how will we raise an "unprecedented" amount of money? Well, if a million people give us one shiny dollar, we will raise a million dollars! Or, if one GIANT company gives us a million dollars.... hey, there's an idea!

That's right folks. I'm targeting the business sector currently responsible for about 15% of the GNP to sponsor TEAM EVANGENITALS.... the adult industry! Heck, they got cash to spare, they like press, I work in that industry, and they are actually a very socially conscious bunch overall when you get to know 'em... why not let them prove it? We already have a few major players lined up to sponsor, and there will be many more to come! We are just getting started with this, and there is already a TON of interests from top companies in the adult industry.

FYI: The money raised by AIDS Walk Los Angeles supports the services provided by AIDS Project Los Angeles in addition to other benefiting organizations representing the entire spectrum of HIV/AIDS services. So give. Give like the river of life. Let the funds flow.

If you have any questions, suggestion, or crazy ideas about how we can raise funds and create a media typhoon please email me! We need all the help we can get to take this over the top!

Thanks for your support!

Cheers,
Juli Crockett

the play's the thing - July 28, 2006

Hello All.

This may seem like commandeering the Evangina site for strange other purposes, but if you live in Los Angeles and want to have your arty roots shaken like a fruit tree till the ripe sweetness falls off and deodarizes the globe, you'll thank me for telling you about this.

I am Juli Crockett. I am the lead singer of the Evangenitals and co-creator of Evangina. However, I am also a writer and director of experimental theater, and I have made an Opera.
http://redcat.org/season/0506/com/now3.php
My friend Jeremy Zuckerman, who also happens to compose for the awesome show Avatar: The Last Airbender on Nickelodeon, composed this piece with me.

Lisa Dee of the Evangenitals & Evangina is featured in the piece, acting and singing. And Jeff Jones and myself play in the 10 piece musical ensemble which includes violins, a harp, contrabass, pedal steel, and a bulgarian folk singer, among other things. With all those Genitals and Ginas up in the mix, it pretty much merits as Evangina news, I say!

The piece is called "Orpheus Crawling" and it is my child-like, half-crazed, totally-delightful, slightly-disturbing, philosophically-rooted riff on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. It is an Opera. I guarantee you have never seen anything like it. I know this because Jeremy and I made it up. From start to finish.

It is playing at the REDCAT Theater in Los Angeles, closing out the NOW Fest (new original works) in that freaking metal Gehry building downtown. It runs from August 3rd-5th. Bring the kids. What doesn't kill them will make them stronger.

You can buy a ticket here: www.redcat.org
It is expected to sell out, so please really do go and buy a ticket.

For directions, more information about the show, ticket, pictures, etc. Go to the REDCAT site, here:
http://redcat.org/season/0506/com/now3.php
Thank you for supporting the arts in Lost Angeles.

Love,
Juli

January 'Gina! - January 3, 2006

New Year, New Site, New Stuff - December 28, 2005

Goodness gracious. Here we are, reporting our news on our very own Evangina website. A little premature? Perhaps. But heck, cyber-space is such an awful big place, it's never too soon to start settin' up a tent on a little plot of digital land, I suppose.

So, here we are. Evangina, the dot com. We've got all sorts of stuff coming down the pipe, so it's as good a time as any to start having an "official" site to post it all on.

First off, there an album about to hit the streets. It's called "Peas", it was recorded in a single day, and you can hear preview tracks of the tunes on our Myspace page, among other places.

www.myspace.com/weareevangina
Next nugget of news: the ladies of the Evangenitals will be playing an upcoming DUO night at Mr T's Bowl, Highland Park w/ Unpoppable and other friends. Rumor around town is that Julio might whip out the new guitar that she got for Christmas.

Is the world ready for a plugged-in Julio on a larger (yet still not full-size) guitar? We know not.

In other news, Julio and Lisa are going to be working on a new play. The Genitals may be doing the muzak for the theatrical extravaganza. It will be open for public viewing in March. More info TBA.

Keep it real. Keep it, really.
